What I'm Watching on TV This Fall

This is normally the time of year when I recap new episodes of Mad Men and rate them between 1 and 5 razor blades, but the show's not airing again till next February (!) so I instead I'll I'd devote this post to the fall TV season.

I'm choosing what programs to watch based solely on whether they have ties to the late, great Lost.

Just kidding. Or am I? With help from IMDB, here's my probable DVR schedule of new shows:

Best Potential Epic:

Once Upon a Time (Modern-day fairy tale from Consulting Producer Damon Lindelof, a Lost alumni who apparently wrote more eps of Lost than anyone else; starring Jennifer Morrison and Ginnifer Goodwin)

Best Opportunity for WB Nostalgia:

Ringer (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as evil and possibly eviller twins, with Nestor Carbonell, aka Richard the creepy immortal from Lost)

Best (Future-)Crime Drama:

Person of Interest (starring Michael Emerson aka Ben/Henry from Lost)

I'm also interested in Awake, but it's a midseason replacement.

What new shows are you watching this fall, and how did you decide on them?

I was JUST saying (as I passed one of our signature L.A. billboards) how there weren't any must-see epic shows this fall but you've just enlightened me. Fairy tale by Lindelof? sweeeeet

  2. Oh, NEW shows. Hmmm, I'm thinking that I need to do some research here. I haven't watched a brand new series in a while - maybe I'll give one of these a shot! I'm depressed about the rumor that Fringe is ending after this season. Nooooo!!!!!

  3. Oh I have a lot- Pan Am, 2 Broke Girls, Revenge, I Hate My teenage Daughter, New Girl, Apt. 23 and Suburgatory (which I am most excited about- the last one) - Juleen

  5. Sophia, glad to be of service :)

Lindsay, I don't think I watched any new shows last fall, but this year, there are tons I'm curious about enough to tune in at least once.

Juleen, great list! Lots of new female-centric sitcoms. I'm also thinking of catching "Good Christian Belles."

Jennifer, definitely -- it'll be fun to see her in something new.

    Thanks for the comments!

  6. I'm VERY intrigued by Once Upon a Time. I've always loved fairy tale retellings, and am curious how they're going to keep it fresh from one week to the next. It's actually the only show I'm planning to make time for. :) Great list!

  7. Thanks, Anita! We'll have to check in with each other after the pilot episode airs and compare notes.

  8. Yeah, I'm definitely checking out Once Upon a Time. Other than that, I think this may be the first TV season in my life that I actually cut BACK on TV. There's just too much to do and not enough time!

  9. I know what you mean, Melanie! I'm already stressing that Once Upon a Time will compete with Amazing Race and, eventually, Mad Men. I also watch The Good Wife, which has moved to Sunday nights. I'll probably end up taping 3-4 shows on Sunday and then watching them later in the week if I can. Last year I watched no new shows so it's strange to be in a position of juggling a whole schedule. We'll see how long that lasts :)

  11. I loved Sarah as Buffy, so I hope I like her in Ringer too. I'm sure her acting will be great, but the show itself I'm not sure. *crosses fingers*

  12. Thanks, Rachel, it'll be interesting to see which pilots keep us coming back. I'll probably give it at least 3 episodes to see how it develops.
